Project Description

The City Rail Link (CRL) is a 3.4km underground passenger railway (including two tracks and three underground stations) running between Britomart Station and the North Auckland Line (NAL) in the vicinity of the existing Mount Eden Station. The CRL also requires 850m of modifications within the NAL.

Matthew represented the project through expert statement of evidence at public hearings and undertook detailed ground-borne noise and vibration modelling and assessments during the definition design and reference design phases. To refine ground-borne noise and vibration predictions at some key receivers, ground attenuation and building coupling loss was measured utilising existing boreholes and drill rig to excite the ground. Throughout the project Matthew has worked closely with Aurecon and Auckland Transport.

This project also involved the design of detailed rail vibration mitigation measures to isolate the vibration of the new rail line from existing and new commercial developments, notably the Commercial Bay Development.  To calculate the regenerated noise levels and vibration potentially affecting the proposed Commercial Bay Development, a detailed FEA model was created of the proposed development.
