Project Description

Pulse Acoustic staff worked on this project as part of the Bassett Acoustics / Wilson Ihrig partnership to provide full acoustical design and construction management services for the project, encompassing structure-borne rail noise and vibration, airborne rail and plant noise, PA system design, and internal acoustics.

A major project challenge was the design of an isolation system to reduce structure-borne noise and vibration. A track isolation system consisting of discontinuous double-tie floating slabs supported on rubber pads, and resilient rail fasteners, was designed using various Finite Element Models implemented in NE Nastran. The design fits within tight space constraints, and achieves the stringent 40dB(A) structure-borne noise criterion in the residential units.

Airborne rail noise emissions were predicted using SoundPlan noise modelling software. Mitigation measures to achieve the airborne noise criteria at nearby apartment buildings are being designed.
